Core Concepts
Before you configure anything, it helps to know the handful of terms Minicrew uses throughout the app. This page is a quick orientation, not a full reference; most of these have their own detailed page elsewhere in these docs.
Workspace (Tenant)
Section titled “Workspace (Tenant)”Your workspace is your company’s private space in Minicrew. Your agents, your channels, your billing, and your team all live inside it, and nobody outside your workspace can see or use your agents. Everything you do in the app happens inside the workspace you’re signed into.
An agent is your AI teammate. Each one has its own name, personality, set of abilities (skills and tools), and its own connections to channels like WhatsApp or Slack. A single workspace can hold several agents: a “Front Desk” agent that answers customer questions, say, alongside a “Scheduling” agent that only books appointments.
Agent Group
Section titled “Agent Group”Groups organize your agents on the dashboard once you have more than a few, grouping all your “Sales” agents together, for instance. They’re purely organizational and don’t affect how an agent behaves, what it can do, or who it talks to. Create one by selecting agents on your dashboard and naming the group, or by dragging one agent onto another.
Persona
Section titled “Persona”An agent’s persona is its personality and voice: how it introduces itself, how formal or friendly it sounds, what it knows about your business. Write this yourself, use a guided template that asks a few questions and drafts it for you, or add it later. Alongside the persona sit rules, a short list of things the agent should always or never do no matter what’s being discussed.
Channels
Section titled “Channels”Channels are where your agent can be reached: Slack, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, Telegram, Lark, your own API, or an embeddable web widget you drop into your website. An agent can connect to more than one channel at a time, using the same persona and abilities regardless of which channel a conversation comes in on.
Skills, Tools, and MCP Skills
Section titled “Skills, Tools, and MCP Skills”These three terms describe what an agent can do beyond chatting.
Skills are pre-built abilities you turn on for an agent: checking a Google Calendar, searching a knowledge base, running a task for a customer. Each may need its own setup, like connecting an account or entering a calendar ID. Tools sit a level lower: they’re the actions the agent’s underlying orchestrator can take while it works, such as browsing the web or running code, and you control which ones an agent may use from its Tools tab. MCP skills come from an external service you connect yourself via MCP (Model Context Protocol); think custom, tenant-added skills alongside Minicrew’s built-in ones. Once connected, they behave like any other skill.
A full breakdown of what’s available lives on the Skills and Tools pages.
Knowledge Base
Section titled “Knowledge Base”The Knowledge Base is where you give an agent information specific to your business (FAQs, documents, spreadsheets) so it answers questions accurately instead of guessing. An agent only uses it if it’s turned on for that agent.
